DELIVERING EXCELLENCE, PROFESSIONALISM, QUALITY AND STANDARDIZATION

The CALS guidelines are specifically designed to resuscitate patients who suffer cardiac arrest after cardiac surgery. The protocol is endorsed by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), the European Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons (EACTS), European Resuscitation Council and the International Liaison Committee On Resuscitation (ILCOR). It is taught and widely practiced in cardiac surgical units around the world.

We aim to offer the Cardiac Surgery Advanced Life Support (CALS) Courses across India. In doing so we will interact with all major cardiac centers across India with the view to establish National Centers of Excellence for CALS Training. This will bring a new level of professionalism, quality and standardisation to resuscitation training and practice across all cardiac surgical centers in India with benefits to staff members and most importantly patients.

The course we offer is aimed at all staff members including surgeons, anaesthetists, intensivists, resident doctors, ICU nurses, theater staffs and perfusionists who are involved in the perioperative care of cardiac surgical patients. The programme includes a pre-course e-learning module and a taught course consisting of lectures, simulations, scenarios and skill stations. Emergency reopening of chest is taught using a custom built 4th Generation 3D Generated Mannikin and a 5-piece procedure pack. Practical experience in airway management, pacing emergencies and support technologies is taught in interactive small group settings to optimise the learning experience. Practical simulations on management of various common peri-arrest cardiac emergencies are also covered.

Each candidate will receive a Digital CALS International Certificate with a Unique International ID upon completion of the course. The certificates are issued centrally by the CALS UK. Re certification leading to re validation ensures lifelong learning and maintains the excellence of the teaching.

Training the Trainers courses allows for a greater knowledge of the subject and also an involvement in the teaching programs in the Centers of Excellence.

Furthermore as elsewhere internationally incorporation into the academic board of CALS INDIA allows for development of research projects involved in resuscitation and post-operative management in cardiac surgery in India.
